Meet Addison

"I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes eight years ago, but this doesn't stop me. I play volleyball and I'm a dancer on our high school dance team. Managing this condition isn't easy and it costs a lot of money. We need to buy many medical items including insulin and we have to make regular trips every three months to the cities for my ongoing appointments because we don't have any specialists in our area who can treat kids with diabetes. With the help of the money raised from Because of Brandon, we have been lucky to receive gas cards and gift cards for a meal while we are there to help make our trips to my appointments less expensive for my parents." - Addison, 14, Pequot Lakes

Brandon

Because of Brandon is a fund raiser in memory of Brandon Houge, a young man from Ironton who unexpectedly passed away in 2015 from complications of diabetes. All proceeds benefit Brandon's Wallet which provides financial assistance to area residents with Type 1 Diabetes. Funds can be used for non-medical needs such as gas cards for travel to treatment, groceries, and youth camp scholarships. Funds are also available to pay for any medical bills, drugs, and non-covered medical equipment and supplies, the patient or his/her family or insurance is unable to cover the costs.

Event Information

Taste the local cuisine of the Hudson, sample new brews, spirits, and wines from local vendors, bid in the online auction, participate in games of chance, and network with other community members at the sixth annual Because of Brandon fundraiser, Friday, April 21, 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hudson in Ironton.

The auction opens on Wednesday, April 19, at 10 a.m. and closes promptly on Friday, April 21, at 7 p.m.
